A member of the Cosa Nostra, he was a partner of Frank Costello, the heir of Lucky Luciano, as well as of Meyer Lansky. From the late 40’s and for the next 30 years, he will reign over New Orleans’ underworld. Following John F. Kennedy’s assassination, the Warren commission will rule that there were no ties between Marcello and Jack Ruby, even though it is a known fact that Santos Trafficante Jr., Ruby and Marcello all met on the day before Kennedy’s assassination. Several people, including the chairman of the House Select Committee on Assassinations, have said that Carlos Marcello was involved in a conspiracy to assassinate President Kennedy, alongside other mafia bosses, including Sam Giancana, Trafficante and Jimmy Hoffa.
