Jack Ruby (1911-1967)

Born Jacob Leon Rubenstein of Polish parents, he will shoot Lee Harvey Oswald on November 24th, 1963, a mere 48 hours after Kennedy’s assassination. He came to live in the Dallas area in 1947 where he’ll manage various nightclubs and strip-tease establishments. These activities and a trip to Cuba in 1959, will help him create ties with organized crime, expecially the mafia. Some theories lend him a role in Rivard’s liberation from jail in Cuba, but there is no eivdence to substantiate this. He is a deeply troubled character, right down to his sexuality, and even his motives for assassinating Oswald are obscure. He would sometimes say he did it so as to allow Jackie Kennedy to avoid having to testify in an eventual Oswald trial while at the same time showing the world that Jews had “guts”, while at other times he declared having done it to avenge Kennedy and other times yet that he did it on a whim, with no motives or agenda whatsoever.
