Caron was a courrier for Lucien Rivard who will have the misfortune of getting caught at the Texas-Mexico border in October 1963 while carrying 34 kilos of heroin. Worth 200 millions $ in today’s dollars, this represented the second largest drug bust in U.S. history. He will give up the name of his “employer”. He will also identify his contacts in Mexico on pictures: Paul Mondolini, Michel-Victor Mertz, Jorge Edouardo Moreno Chauvet, Fulgentio Cruz Bonet, Tony Farina and Frank Giovani Scalici. It is Caron’s arrest that will bring Lucien Rivard to the limelight and plunge the Lester B. Pearson government into a crisis leading to the resignation of his Justice minister, Guy Favreau. It is notable, even though no ties can be established between them, that Lee Harvey Oswald was in Mexico at the same time as Michel Caron in October 1963.
